Background
Over the years, I've made a whole bunch of these sculptures that subvert the format of the historical marker and, instead of highlighting a famous General who slept here or a famous battle that happened there, highlight a contemporary political or social issue. Lending the weight of historical importance to some of our weightiest current issues. I call this series "On This Site Stood" and the sculptures in it have been shown all over the place in museums and galleries and have been covered everywhere from the New York Times to the Woodstock Times and Sculpture Magazine and many many places in between.
The sculptures themselves are cast aluminum and acrylic paint and stand 96" x 36" x 4" and almost all of them begin their lives as Photoshop mock ups - digital dreams of what might one day, funding permitting, become an actual, physical sculpture. For example, this one:
